professionals in the social, health and psychiatric services field
necessary for the growing diversity in communities. By managing the

needs while reducing the time and money required for hiring such
desirables.
Several issues exist that create a challenge in providing health care
industries services for one of the country's fastest growing ethnic
groups. The language barrier is one of the more
obvious hurdles in intercepting issues early. Parents'
miscommunication in acquiring healthcare for their children invariably
leads to poor outcomes, particularly given the sizable amount of
families lacking adequate health insurance. There is a
shortage of competent professionals who can provide
treatment to Hispanics families and recent immigrants due to the
disproportionately small number of minority mental health
professionals compared to the country's total minority population. Of
critical importance is the lack of understanding of how medical issues
are perceived within different ethnic communities and their potential
associated stigmas, which can effect how easily or willing those in
need of medical care will seek assistance.
Another is the management of different service organizations being
less than ideally integrated. Any potential clients may seek help from
the first provider they come in contact, and may become frustrated
when it is insufficient to deal with more complex health care
problems. This lack of cross-communication between different services
can leave the interested party sometimes unaware of alternative
options that would prove more beneficial. Our goal is to alleviate
this disparity by establishing a primary health care situation that is
community based and sensitive to examined stresses within specific
ethnic communities. Programs must be located in geographically accessible areas with early intervention programs Other
ameliorations include educational awareness of issues within ethnic
communities that may be unknown by the majority of residents, as well
as encouraging the interest of Hispanics potentially entering the
health care field to create a more varied and diverse professional
pool to assist under-served, 'high risk' communities.
