One who experiments with heraldry as a hobby or vocation but lacks a formal wizard degree from a school, by choice or lack of means.
The term was originally prejorative, refering specifically to the result of uneducated experiments being explosions. The term was eventually co-opted into positive slang. Supporters comment that while Wizards are very good at the mechanics of heraldry, boomists use the art in a more practical sense and make most of the real innovations.
